Many users have requested a way to track their weight, and others wanted BMI calculation. It’s not fully cooked yet, but I added both, including body fat calculation, and I hope it doesn’t detract from Gym Buddy’s main purpose. I wanted a way that you could save your weight without having to also take your measurements, but with the power to add them if you want. As you can see in the middle screenshot above, some records only contain the weight, some include the measurements. For those that do have measurement data, it doesn’t show it -- instead it shows the calculations based on those measurements. If you touch a row, you can add or edit the measurements and even the date.
For body fat calculation, if you care, Gym Buddy uses formulas that were developed by Hodgdon and Beckett at the Naval Health Research Center in 1984.
It took me a few iterations to get to this method, but I think it works pretty good. Hopefully people like it.
For 1.7 I have already redesigned the Body Calc root view and moved the gender/units buttons to a much improved redesign of the settings menu. I will also add a new chart that will graph your weight, lean body mass, BMI, and body fat %.
A new improvement for 1.6 is the addition of a period to the number pad, in the lower left rectangle. See the third screenshot above. So if you want to enter a decimal weight, you no longer have to switch to the full keyboard. I left the keyboard toggling function in there in case anyone wants to enter text or some other code that means something to them. For entering duration in a cardio exercise, the period changes to a colon. I think I missed a few keyboards in the edit screens that will be completed in 1.7.
1.6 also includes a bug fix for the countdown timers. In 1.5, if you entered a set while the counter was counting it would reset, which is good, but then stop counting. Now in 1.6, if it is set to autostart, it will reset and continue counting. If autostart is off, it will just continue counting. What’s cool about this is that you can use one of the timers to time multiple sets or even your entire workout. Notice the third timer in the third screenshot above is set to 30 minutes (1800 seconds).
I should mention again that the timers will only work for about 20 seconds after you put your device to sleep -- unless you are playing music. If you don’t listen to music, I have created an hour long mp3 of silence you can download from the home page. Play this ‘silence’ in the background while you workout and the timers will work fine even when your device is asleep (just be sure to stop the playback when your workout is done).
Also, I have been out of communication for most of the last week, so my apologies to those who have written and haven’t got a reply. I will catch up soon. I really appreciate all feedback.
