What’s new in Gym Buddy 1.3?
Released 12/29/08
In preparation for charting implementation, we have introduced the One Rep Max concept throughout Gym Buddy. Based on any combination of weight and reps, your One Rep Max will tell you the heaviest weight you can lift at least once. This may or may not be interesting information, but what it definitely does do is give you a way to compare wildly different sets. For example, if you do 5 reps at 200 lbs, then obviously doing 6 reps is better. But what if you do 4 reps at 230 lbs? Is this better than 5 at 200? This is what your One Rep Max will tell you.
Gym Buddy uses two formulas to calculate your One Rep Max. For 10 or fewer reps, it uses: 1RM = weight / (1.0278 - (.0278 * reps).
For more than ten reps: 1RM = weight * (reps * 0.033 + 1).
So now Gym Buddy calculates your 1RM with every set and even displays your best-ever 1RM right on the input screen.
Another major advance is the addition of detail screens. Tap on the blue Chevron for any exercise or workout and you see a bunch of data about your performance. Some of it is silly and superfluous, but if you let me know what data is interesting to you, it is easy to change.
The main Workouts screen now shows the number of weight-training and cardio exercises in each workout, as well as the last time the workout was used.
1.3 also adds support for ‘|’ delimited emails for those who were having trouble with the tabs. Several users have reported that the tabs don’t show in Outlook, which is weird, but this should fix it.
Some users have said they don’t like the new colors, so the next version (a couple weeks) will introduce Themes and give you the option to choose the default colors. Sorry if the current colors are hard for you to read.
Anyway, I’m working hard to bring you more & more exciting features. Expect many updates over the next few months.
