Gym Buddy and S’cool Buddy both have Backup and Restore.

A wifi network connection to your computer is required.

  1. No more worries about losing your data.

  2. You can transfer your database between devices.

  3. You can use a separate database for different users on the same device.

  4. With the right software, you can even edit the database on a computer.

Gym Buddy and S’cool Buddy use SyncDocs to help make the syncing as simple as possible.  SyncDocs is a free and open-source Java application that does not require any DNS or IP settings.

You can learn about SyncDocs here:  http://syncdocs.sourceforge.net/index.php

You can download the Mac version here:

https://sourceforge.net/project/platformdownload.php?group_id=235152&sel_platform=10694

Or the Windows version here:

https://sourceforge.net/project/platformdownload.php?group_id=235152&sel_platform=9935

To install SyncDocs:

• Download SyncDocs using the links above.  (The Mac version, for example, is only a 322KB download.)

• Drag the SyncDocs.app (OS X) or SyncDocs.jar (Windows) file to the folder where you would like your backups stored.

  1. Make sure port 5353 (Bonjour Service) is opened in your Firewall software or disable your firewalls.

  2. Double-click the SyncDocs.app file (OS X) or SyncDocs.jar file (Windows).

That’s it.  You are now ready to backup your database.

To Backup Gym Buddy or S’cool Buddy:

Open the app on your iPhone or iPod Touch, select the Data Mgmt tab and hit the Backup button.

If your device is on the same network as the computer running SyncDocs, you will see SyncDocs listed in the table.  If it says “Searching for SyncDocs services” there is a problem with your connection.

Select ‘SyncDocs’ and you’re done. After a short pause, you should see a ‘Backup Successful’ alert.  You can view your backups by hitting the ‘Show Downloads’ button in SyncDocs.

To Restore a Database:

From the Data Mgmt tab in the app, hit the Restore button.  Your Buddy will warn you that restoring a database will replace and delete the currently installed database, and that you must restart the app for the changes to take effect.

Select ‘Restore’ if you’re sure.  If your network is working, you will see ‘SyncDocs’ listed in the table.  Select it and you will see the list of all your available backups, which are named by the date and time they were created.

Select your desired backup and you’re done.  You should see a ‘Restore Successful’ alert.  Before your database is active, you must quit the app and restart it.

That’s it!
